INDEPENDENCE - Latest News

Independence, MO has a comprehensive (all public places, bars and restaurants) smoke-free law.

The Independence measure was approved by 64% of the voters.  The community conducted a coordinated campaign and used the Clean Air motto.  Copies of the Independence ordinance, including a list of Frequently Asked Questions, is available on the City of Independence website >www.indepmo.org

The Independence measure was passed following a year-long volunteer campaign that included extensive community education which was funded by the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City >www.healthcare4kc.org

Many thoughtful letters to the editor were submitted to The Examiner during the last week of the campaign. They can be read on the paper’s website >www.examiner.net by searching the Archives.

Independence organizers are willing to work with citizens in other area communities interested in adopting a similar ordinance.
